Requirements for an aerobatic instructor with associated rating designation
Regulatory reference: FCL.905.FI (g). The Norwegian Civil Aviation Authority hereby clarify the practice that applies to aerobatic instructors for holders of a Norwegian Part-FCL licence.
An aerobatic instructor can provide certificate holders with aerobatic rating training in accordance with FCL.800. The requirements for these instructors can be found in FCL.905.FI (g). The aerobatic instructor candidate shall hold the relevant class licence, aerobatic rating and medical.
FCL.905.FI (g) requires the aerobatic instructor candidate to demonstrate his ability to instruct aerobatic for an FI(A) qualified in accordance with FCL.905.FI (j) who also holds an aerobatic rating.
There are no specific requirements in the regulations that describe a training program for aerobatic instructors. Therefore, the training program should be carried out and assessed by the relevant FI(A) FI. The competence of the instructor candidate is assessed by the FI(A) FI and endorsed in the candidate's logbook. The aerobatic instructor should be able to present documentation of such assessment upon request.
It is not required to apply to the Norwegian Civil Aviation Authority for the issuance of an aerobatic instructor certificate. After a demonstration of competence and attestation in the logbook, the instructor can exercise his privileges. The Norwegian Civil Aviation Authority will no longer affix an "A" behind FI(A). The A denotes privileges as an aerobatic instructor. Aerobatic instructors who have such an "A" on their instructor certificate, will not have this printed in the licence at the next licence issue. You do not lose your aerobatic instructor privileges, only the designation.
The head of training at the ATO or DTO that offers aerobatic rating is responsible for ensuring that instructors have the correct qualifications.
