Validation of PPL, CPL and ATPL for non-commercial operations – 28 days
This AIC-I 04/22 replaces AIC-I 06/19.
This AIC will clarify CAA Norway policy on validation of third country licenses for non-commercial operations on Norwegian registered aircraft.
According to Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2020/723, Article 8 (3), a validation may be given for a period of 28 days per calendar year for specific non-commercial tasks (PPL privileges).
Validation is given when the following requirements are met:
(a) holds an appropriate licence (PPL, CPL or ATPL) and medical certificate and associated ratings or qualifications issued in accordance with Annex 1 to the Chicago Convention;
(b) The pilot has completed at least one acclimatisation flight with a qualified EASA flight instructor prior to carrying out the specific tasks of limited duration as PIC;
- The acclimatisation flight shall contain elements related to the aircraft variant being used, Standardised European Rules of the Air (SERA) and any additional elements regarded necessary by the instructor.
- The acclimatisation flight shall be endorsed in the candidate’s logbook or an equivalent document and signed by the instructor.
- The endorsement shall be available for inspection by the competent authority for the entire duration of the validation period.
The validation is valid for 28 days per calendar year. The 28 days does not have to be consecutive but can only be completed in the same calendar year. I.e., if the acclimatisation flight is completed in 2022, the validation is only valid in 2022. If the pilot wants the same validation for 2023, a new acclimatisation flight must be completed.
No application or registration form needs to be sent to CAA Norway.
For other types of validation, please consult Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2020/723, laying down detailed rules with regards to the acceptance of third-country certification of pilots and amending Regulation (EU) No 1178/2011. Validation of licences is described in Section 2, Article 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.
If you have any further questions regarding validation of third country licenses, please contact CAA Norway via email to: postmottak@caa.no.
