Documentation requirements

When applying for a background check, you must provide documentation covering the past five years.

Below is a list of valid documentation.

Employment

  • Employment contract – the employer must state the start date of employment
  • Employment confirmation – the employer must state the period of employment
  • Employee register from the NAV or the employment agency in your country  

Education

Documentation from lower secondary school (ungdomsskole) is not required. For other education levels, the following applies:

  • Upper secondary school – diploma or screenshot from vigo.no (the diploma must show the name of the school, and the school year)
  • Higher education – diploma, credentials portal printout, diploma supplement, or admission documents

Unemployment

Acceptable documents include:

  • Decision letter from the Unemployment Agency
  • Unemployment registration history

Periods without documentation

You can provide a self-declaration covering periods where no official documents exist. The declaration must include a handwritten signature from a witness – this can be a family member, friend, employer, or representative from a public office.
